Named Accountable GP
The NHS standard contract for 2015/16 requires that all patients, including children, are allocated a named, accountable GP. The named, accountable GP will have overall responsibility for the care and support that the practice provides for you. This does not prevent you from seeing any GP in the practice as you currently do.
If you would like to know who your named GP is please contact reception.

Change of Telephone Number
It is very important that you let us know if you change your telephone number.
You can do this by completing:
* the on line change of details form at the foot of this page
* the change of details form available from reception

Alternatively you can include the details on your repeat prescription request.

GP Registrars
As you may be aware the Heron Practice is a teaching practice.
We currently have Drs Jane Miles and Aliya Mustapha undertaking their "in service" placements with us. 



We aim to offer an appointment within 48 hours. We would like to offer your choice of doctor or nurse if they are available/wherever possible.


You can contact the surgery after 8am to make an appointment. You can (pre) book appointments up to 4 weeks in advance. You will be given an appointment time during morning or evening surgery to see a named doctor or nurse. This will be with a doctor or nurse of your preferred choice wherever possible. Alternatively you can pre-book appointments using Patient Online Access please use the link below to complete the registration form and return this to reception.

If you need to be seen urgently we can offer an emergency (same day/book on the day) appointment. If all the emergency appointments have gone we will take your details, telephone number and brief details of the problem and arrange for the DUTY DOCTOR to call you back as soon as possible. The DUTY DOCTOR is available from 8am until 6.30pm, Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays).

Emergency (same day/book on the day) appointments are for 1 medical problem only and are not for repeat prescriptions, sick notes, long standing medical problems, non-NHS services (eg, insurance forms, letters, etc). Please use these appointments appropriately.

Please note that as this is an emergency clinic, situations might arise that may result in you not being seen at your appointment time.

Under 5's: We will see unwell babies and under 5 year olds at a special time of 8:30am. This is for emergency consultations and cannot be booked in advance. If possible please phone reception to let us know that you are on your way. If you arrive after 8:45am you may not be seen. Reception will advise you what time to return to surgery.


We also offer telephone consultations. These are for patients who want to discuss health problems with a doctor and feel they don't need to be examined; these appointments can be booked up to 1 week in advance. Please note these consultations are not for general information/advice that can be obtained via NHS Choices or NHS Direct.

EXTENDED HOURS                                                                                                  

We offer a number of appointments on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings between 6.30pm and 8.00pm for those patients who find it difficult to attend the surgery during our usual opening hours. These appointments can be booked using the Patient Online Access or by contacting reception.


APPOINTMENT INFORMATION                                                                            

Please help us to help you so that surgeries can run to time. When you make an appointment with your doctor it is booked for a 10-minute consultation. If you have more than one ailment that you wish to discuss, start with the one that feels most important to you. If the doctor feels that more time is needed to consult with you on the other issues then he/she will ask you to make another appointment.

Disabled Access

Our health centre has suitable access for disabled patients.

All the patient areas including the waiting room, the consulting rooms and the toilets, have wheelchair access.

A hearing loop is in place at the front reception desk and portable hearing loops are available for use in consulting rooms.

There are designated disabled parking spaces in the car park.
